Male gynaecologist
Q: Is it permissible for a Muslim male to practice as a gynaecologist, and is it permissible for a Muslim female to visit a male gynaecologist for her monthly check-ups and delivery of the baby?
A: This type of profession where a male has to come into close contact with a woman is really not appropriate. As far as possible, men should avoid these types of professions. Though there is the element of fitnah in other professions as well, the element of fitnah is far greater in this. Further, when people see a male gynaecologist, they tend to have doubts about him, thus resulting in disrespect for him.
قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ ﴿النور: ٣٠﴾
عن حذيفة رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا ينبغي للمؤمن أن يذل نفسه قالوا وكيف يذل نفسه قال يتعرض من البلاء لما لا يطيق هذا حديث حسن غريب (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 2254)
وأما النظر إلى الأجنبيات فنقول يجوز النظر إلى مواضع الزينة الظاهرة منهن وذلك الوجه والكف في ظاهر الرواية كذا في الذخيرة وإن غلب على ظنه أنه يشتهي فهو حرام ... فلا بأس بأن يتأمل جسدها لأن نظره إلى ثيابها لا إلى جسدها فهو كما لو كانت في بيت فنظر إلى جداره هذا إذا لم تكن ثيابها ملتزقة بها بحيث تصف ما تحتها كالقباء التركية ولم تكن رقيقة بحيث تصف ما تحتها فإن كانت بخلاف ذلك ينبغي له أن يغض بصره لأن هذا الثوب من حيث إنه لا يسترها بمنزلة شبكة عليها (الفتاوى الهندية 5/329)
