Proof of the kalimah shahaadah
Q: Is there any proof of our kalimah sahada ‘Laa ilaaha illal-laahu Muhammadur rasu-lullaah’ in Quran and hadith? I have heard this is derived from Quran and Hadith but these complete words are not directly found in Quran and hadith, please clarify providing appropriate references.
A: In all books of hadeeth the shahaadat is contained, sometimes in the khutbah sometimes in attahiyyaat and elsewhere this is found. This is so famous and popular that it is strange that anybody can ask such a thing. It is contained in all books of hadeeth.
عن عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال كنا نقول التحية في الصلاة ونسمي ويسلم بعضنا على بعض فسمعه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال قولوا التحيات لله والصلوات والطيبات السلام عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله فإنكم إذا فعلتم ذلك فقد سلمتم على كل عبد لله صالح في السماء والأرض (صحيح البخاري رقم 1202)
عن سعد بن أبي وقاص عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال من قال حين يسمع المؤذن أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله رضيت بالله ربا وبمحمد رسولا وبالإسلام دينا غفر له ذنبه (صحيح مسلم رقم 386)
