Ilm-e-Takwini & Ilm-e-Shari'ee

Q:

  1. What is the difference between Ilm-e-Takwini & Ilm-e-Shari?
  2. How are both reconciled jointly in Islam?
  3. Are they people still carrying out Takwini  works?
  4. Is takwini works only carried out by Belivers? or Disbelivers also?

A:

  1. `Ilm-e-Shar`ee refers to those obligations and the prohibitions of the shariah. `Ilm-e-Takweeni are laws that relate to the administration of the worldly affairs that do not relate to thawaab and azaab something similar to the duties assigned to certain Malaa'ikah.
  2. There is no need to reconcile as takween is not a command of the shariah. It is related to the administration of affairs. Both takweeni and shar`ee are the commands of Allah Ta`ala. Those who are summoned with takweeni `ilm will know exactly what they are assigned to do at which time.
  3. As long as the world is in existence, there will be the need for carrying out takweeni works.
  4. Takweeni works are divine instructions and the Qur'aan says: "We don't take assistance from people who mislead." (Surah Kahf)
