Man being given a choice between good and evil

Q: Is hasad in our hearts created by Allah or Shaitaan?

A: Allah Ta’ala has given man a choice between good and evil. For the good he does, Allah Ta’ala promises him reward, and for the evil he does, Allah Ta’ala warns him of His punishment. Each person with his free will carries out good actions or does evil deeds. No person is forced to carry out any action, whether good or evil. A person, who is caught for theft, is apprehended and imprisoned by the law. The law punishes such a person on account of him utilising his choice in the wrong avenue. Had he been forced by the law to steal, the law will not be justified in punishing him. Hence, Allah Ta’ala gives each person a choice between good and evil. Allah Ta’ala rewards the good doer for the good and punishes the evil doer for the evil. Hence, man earns wrong through his own actions. Allah Ta'ala does not force him to do wrong. Had Allah Ta'ala forced him to do wrong, Allah Ta'ala would not punish him for it, since Allah Ta'ala was the one who made him do it.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
