Miracles of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

Q: Someone told me, regarding the miracles of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) that Allah Ta'ala said, "You do not perform miracles, I perform them." Is it correct?

A: The meaning of this appears in the Qur'aan Shareef. Perhaps you are referring to the verse of the Qur'aan Shareef wherein Allah Ta'ala says, "You did not throw when you threw (the sand), but Allah Ta'ala had thrown." In other words, it was Allah Ta'ala who had caused the sand to reach the eyes of each kaafir.

From this verse, we understand that nothing takes place without the will and permission of Allah Ta'ala. No person (whether he be a prophet or a non-prophet) has the ability to carry out any miracle of his own.

Accordingly, one should understand that the miracles which Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) performed throughout his mubaarak life were not of his own ability but rather with the permission of Allah Ta'ala.

Allah Ta'ala allowed these miracles to manifest at the mubaarak hands of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Otherwise, there were certain occasions where the kuffaar asked Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to perform certain miracles and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) told them that he does not have the ability to carry it out. The only one who can make it happen is Allah Ta'ala.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
