Reciting Durood a Thousand Times

Q:

  1. I came accross a hadith that says one needs to read a specific durood a thousand times and he will not leave this world until he sees his abode in jannah (something to the effect). Is there any hadith that says any durood could be read including the durood "Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam" and one will get the same benefit?
  2. I read at least one friday (begining from the thursday night) 1000 times "Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam". Now am I guranteed jannah because we do not doubt what our prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said?

A: We believe that whatever the Qur’aan and Hadith guarantee will certainly take place. However, we should understand that these guarantees are conditional.  The condition for one receiving the promised blessing is that one refrains from committing any sin (minor or major) which will deprive one from earning these promised blessings.

Allamah Sakhawi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) in Alqaulul Badee pg273 quoted the Hadith of Anas (Radiallahu Anhu) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who recites durood upon me one thousand times shall not die until he is shown his abode in paradise.”

Insha-Allah through you reciting “Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam” you will be blessed with the same reward mentioned in the Hadith.

Q: Do you have to recite 1000 times in one go or you can spread the recitation over some days?

A: In our understanding, the Hadith refers to reading 1000 times Durood Shareef in one day.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
