Disposing of items left behind in the musjid

Q: We have many left behind/lost items in our musjid. Perishable items are also left behind. We wish to make signage boards stating that: Any item left behind or lost will be kept for 7 days and thereafter disposed off. Is this correct?

What about perishable /food times?

A: Items that perish very quickly may be handed over to those in need before they expire. For other items, the signboard could be placed at each entrance of the musjid so that no person misses it and remains unaware that if any item is missing, then this will be the procedure followed.
