Women attending Deeni programmes
Q: According to Islamic law, women should remain in their homes and only leave their homes if there is an urgent need to, yet we find that there are Ulama who are advertising this program and that program all in the name of uplifting the ummah. Obviously, these women are going to leave their homes to attend these programs and as a woman myself, I know very well as to how women beautify themselves when leaving the home. My question is "Are these Ulama not contradicting themselves so severly?" Many women look at this and think that its totally fine to go because the Moulanas are encouraging it.
A: Women are commanded to remain within the confines of their homes. They should not leave their homes unless for a valid need. However, if a woman fears that she would not be able to maintain her Deen without attending the Deeni programs (which are held by reliable and pious people), then under such circumstances it will be permissible for her to attend these Deeni programs. She should ensure that she dresses in a modest way and does not violate any law of Shariah i.e. she should dress up in an unattractive state, not apply perfume, be fully covered with donning the veil, not intermingle with males and be transported to and fro by her husband or mahram. She should ensure that she remains in the company of pious and righteous people along the way as well as at the program.
وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَى وَأَقِمْنَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتِينَ الزَّكَاةَ وَأَطِعْنَ اللَّـهَ وَرَسُولَهُ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّـهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا (سورة الاحزاب آية 33)
عن أبى هريرة قال لقيته امرأة وجد منها ريح الطيب ينفح ولذيلها إعصار فقال يا أمة الجبار جئت من المسجد قالت نعم. قال وله تطيبت قالت نعم. قال إنى سمعت حبى أبا القاسم صلى الله عليه وسلم- يقول لا تقبل صلاة لامرأة تطيبت لهذا المسجد حتى ترجع فتغتسل غسلها من الجنابة (أبو داود 2/222)
وحيث أبحنا لها الخروج فإنما يباح بشرط عدم الزينة وتغير الهيئة إلى ما يكون داعية لنظر الرجال والاستمالة قال الله تعالى ولا تبرجن تبرج الجاهلية الأولى (رد المحتار 3/604)
لا تركب مسلمة على سرج الحديث هذا لو للتلهي ولو لحاجة غزو أو حج أو مقصد ديني أو دنيوي لا بد لها منه فلا بأس به
قال الشامي: قوله ( للحديث ) وهو لعن الله الفروج على السروج ذخيرة لكن نقل المدني عن أبي الطيب أنه لا أصل له اه يعني بهذا اللفظ وإلا فمعناه ثابت ففي البخاري وغيره لعن رسول الله المتشبهين من الرجال بالنساء والمتشبهات من النساء بالرجال وللطبراني أن مرأة مرت على رسول الله متقلدة قوسا فقال لعن الله المتشبهات من النساء بالرجال والمتشبهين من الرجال بالنساء قوله ( ولو لحاجة غزو إلخ ) أي بشرط أن تكون متسترة وأن تكون مع زوج أو محرم قوله ( أو مقصد ديني ) كسفر لصلة رحم ط (رد المحتار 6/423)
