Medical aid

Q: If a person has a disease such as HIV/AIDS and cannot afford the medication (1000$/month). Is it permissible to get insurance or use insurance benefits from work that one pays for in part?

A: Taking out insurance or medical aid is impermissible as the elements of gambling and interest are found in it. However if medical aid is a compulsory requirement of the company one is employed by, and the company takes out the medical aid on behalf of the employee from part of his salary, it will be permissible for him to benefit from it.
