Method of making ghusal

Q: Please can you tell me am I making ghusal right as I was thought this way in school.

Make niyyah
Wash private parts
Wash hands
Make complete wudu
Pour water over entire body 3 times.

I have been told this is incorrect. An is it the same for males?

A: This is correct. However after wudhu one should pour water over ones body thrice. One will commence by pouring the water over the head thrice and thereafter by pouring the water over the right and left shoulder thrice. One should ensure that one gargles the mouth and rinses the nostrils while making wudhu as this is fardh in ghusal.
