Working as a Baker

Q: My sister bakes and sells cakes from home. She mostly bakes birthday cakes, novelty cakes, wedding cakes, Valentine’s Day cakes, Mother’s Day cakes, etc. Is it permissible?

A: It is permissible to bake and sell cakes. However, Islam does not recognise Valentine’s Day, birthdays, Mother’s Day, etc. These are kuffaar customs and festivals. Hence, it will be undesirable for her to bake these types of cakes for people to celebrate these occasions.
