Q: I read on Islamiqa that a kaffara is only due on a broken fast, if the fast was broken due to sexual intercourse, there is no need for kaffara. If the fast was broken due to delebretly eating or drinking, only qadha is necessary. Is this right?

Q: I am 18 years old. Till today I don't have knowledge of shariat and what are kabeera and sageera gunah. I came to know a little about this 5 month ago when some of tablighi jamaat members contacted me and taught me about I slam and sunnat and now I offer prayers also. My family is far from shariat and sunnat. Although all of us pray 5 times a day and also recite holy quraan but none of us acts on sunnat and we are not aware of what life our prophet (Sallalalahu Alayhi Wasallam) led and which a'maal will lead us to jahannum and which to jaanat and even if we are aware of it we don't practice it in our life. I try to lead an Islamic life and also had grown a sunnat beard and also wear topee and avoid jeans and tight and fashionable dress but my family says that you have much life to practice these things. But for now just concentrate on your studies. Recently I got selected in mbbs entrance exam but I am not happy with my life because I want to devote my whole life to Islam so that I can practice Islam myself and also spread it to others. The problem is that my parents and whole family is against It. They don't want me to leave worldly studies and go for Islamic studies but if I did not get islamic studies and complete my goal then I am afraid of getting stressed and mad. Kindly guide me as soon as possible.

Q: We travel in a combi home and throughout the fasting month break our fast on the road. The van consists of 5 Muslims who have a turn each to purchase the iftar meals. We also buy for a non-muslim friend and because we include her she also wants to have a turn to buy for us. Whenever it is her turn she gives us the money to buy the eats. I would just like find out if this is permissible?

Q: I had a couple of questions about Zakat:
- I became saahib-e-nisaab in Rabi-al-Awwal. However in order to gain the blessings of Ramadan I wanted to give my zakat during that month. In 1433 I gave my zakat funds in Rabi-al-Awwal as per my cycle, and in Ramadan 1433 (same year) I gave zakat on the estimated amount I would have in the following year- Rabi-al-Awwal 1434 (which I then verified in Rabi-al-Awwal to ensure the full zakat had been discharged based on the actual amount I had). Is it now possible for me to switch my zakat cycle to every Ramadan? Or if I have to pay in Ramadan, do I still have to calculate it each year based on the projected amount for the next Rabi-al-Awwal?
- My brother and mother had asked me to pay Zakat to someone on their behalf and then they would transfer the funds later. I made the payment and then we later forgot to do the transfer and I just came across the amounts in a note I made back then. I don't really want to take the money from them money now - would their obligation be fulfilled if I paid the zakat on their behalf from my money and didn't take it from them?

Q: I started pleasuring myself since I was 12. I didn't know what it was up until I was 13/14. It eventually turned into an addiction so bad that sometimes I did it in school. I tried really hard to get rid of this sinful habit by asking for Allah's help but eventually would slip into the sin. This sinful habit ruined my life, and I don't want it to ruin my life anymore. Also I've missed many prayers due to this sinful addiction. Am I supposed to make up those many prayers I missed? If yes, how should I do it. Please give me advice on how to stop this addiction and please make du'a for me and for all brothers and sisters with issues whether it is the same issue as mine or not.

Q: My question is regarding the raising of the index finger and the motion of the right hand during salah.
- Is the finger to be lowered at "wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan"
- Is the right hand to be kept closed from the moment at which the index finger is raised, up until Durood Ibraheem (Alayhi-salaam) or right until tasleem?
