Forty Duroods
Q: Over Radio Islam or Chanel Islam or any gathering we frequently hear the recitation of 40 Duroods. I have only come across the mention and benefits of reading 100 or 1000 Durood. Where is it written in the hadith kitaabs or made mention specifically of 40 Duroods and what are the benefits of reading specifically 40 Durood?
A: The kitab that has been compiled with 40 duroods is the duroods that appear in reliable ahadeeth. However, there are numerous ahadeeth that contain other wordings of durood as well. The kitab has been prepared with 40 duroods out of convenience. There are other kitabs which contain 100 duroods as well.
حدثني عبد الله بن عيسى سمع عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى قال لقيني كعب بن عجرة فقال ألا أهدي لك هدية سمعتها من النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلت بلى فأهدها لي فقال سألنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلنا يا رسول الله كيف الصلاة عليكم أهل البيت فإن الله قد علمنا كيف نسلم عليكم قال قولوا اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد اللهم بارك (صحيح البخاري رقم 3370)
