Eating haraam food

Q: What happens to a person when he eats haraam food and what can be done to take out the ill effects of it?
A:
1. He loses the reward of his ibaadaat for forty days and his duas are not accepted during this period.
2. He should sincerely repent to Allah Ta'ala and reform his ways.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
