Accepting a box of chocolates with merry christmas greetings on it
Q: I have received a box of chocolates from my neighbour and it was conveyed with Merry Christmas greetings on it. Is it permissible to eat the chocolates or not? What will be the ruling in the case where I receive a gift of hot cross buns or a christmas tree? Can I accept it and eat the hot cross buns?
A: It is best for one not to accept the gift. However, if one accepted it, then since chocolates are not a symbol of kufr, it is permissible for one to consume it. Nevertheless, before consuming it, one should tear off the merry christmas greetings in order to show that one neither supports their celebrations nor has any regard for it.
However, if the gift they are giving has any religious connotations e.g. a christmas tree, hot cross buns or easter eggs at the time of easter etc., then it will not be permissible for one to accept it nor consume it, as these gifts have religious connotations.

باب ما جاء في قبول هدايا المشركين
لا يجوز قبول الهدية من المشركين إذا كان مورثا لودادتهم أو كان مبنيا على الاتلاف بهم ويجوز الأخذ في غير ذلك مثل ما يأخذ الملوك من الرعايا وعلى هذا يخرج الحكم فيما يبذله الهنود من ديارنا في أعيادهم ويتحفون أهل الإسلام فما كان مذلة لهم جاز وما كان فيه ذل للأخذ أو يكون للمودة المحضة لم يجز ولذلك قبل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم هدايا بعض المشركين ورد بعضهم ليكون الأول من أول القسمين والثاني من ثانيهما وهذا هو المراد بقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهيت عن زبد المشركين وأجاب بعضهم بأن النهي عن القبول كان بعد القبول وعلى هذا يكون نسخا (الكوكب الدري 2/ 412)
