Inheritance

Q: My question is my father passed away. He left a house, his car, assests and business. My mom is still alive and I am the only daugther. It is only the two of us. My mom says all the inheritance is for her alone. Is this true?

A: No. You mother's claim that everything belongs to her is incorrect. It is haraam for her to make such a claim and it is an act of ignorance. If your father does not have his own parents and no other children beside yourself and your mother then you will rightfully inherit half his estate. Your mother will get one eighth. If your father has brothers and sisters then they will inherit the remainder. If it is like how we have explained that he has brothers and sisters then explain how many real brothers and sisters he has so that we may be able to show you the right proportions.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
