Masah of the head
Q: I am asking that not long ago I found out that while doing wudu at the end when you do masah, I used to wash my ears first then wash my hair couple of times and I found out the real order and started doing it like the order you really should. So I'm asking that I'm not sure what's the ruling on that because some people say it's okay if you didn't know but now I'm sending this question to you because I really want to know?
A: The sunnah is that one make masah of the head before making masah of the ears. However, if one had made masah of the ears before the head, the wudhu is valid.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
(ومسح كل الرأس مرة) وكيفيته أن يضع كفيه وأصابعه على مقدم رأسه ويمدهما إلى قفاه على وجه يستوعب جميع الرأس ثم يمسح أذنيه بأصبعيه (درر الحكام 1/11)
والأظهر أنه يضع كفيه وأصابعه على مقدم رأسه ويمدهما إلى قفاه على وجه يستوعب جميع الرأس ثم يمسح أذنيه بإصبعيه (تبيين الحقائق 1/5)
(وإن بدأ في وضوئه بذراعيه قبل وجهه، أو رجليه قبل رأسه أجزأه عندنا) ... فإن الترتيب في الوضوء عندنا سنة (المبسوط للسرخسي 1/55)
