Performing fajr after sunrise

Q: I heard that praying fajr after sunrise is an act of shirk. But what if I accidentally prayed fajr 2 minutes after sunrise without knowing it was past the time for fajr?

A: This is incorrect. Through one performing fajr after sunrise, one has not committed an act of shirk. If you performed your fajr Salaah after sunrise, then the Salaah is valid. However the correct way in such a situation is that one should wait for the sun to rise till the time of ishraaq (approximately fifteen to twenty minutes after sunrise) and thereafter perform the qadha.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
