Imaam leading the Salaah in the state of janaabat

Q: I was asked this by a friend, if a person, in his teenage years led one fajr salaah in the state of janaabat, what amends does he have to carry out in order to make this right with Allaah Ta'ala? This happened in 2006. He does not know the exact date of the salaah.

A: Make taubah and make an open announcement that the namaaz that was performed on this approximate date must be repeated. Perhaps this notice must be left in the musjid for at least one year. You do not have to state the reason why the namaaz must be repeated, or perhaps you could say that mistakenly you had not taken wudhu or ghusl.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: I've tried to carry this out. An Aalim, who is the imam there told the person in charge that this will cause confusion therefore he must not put up the notice. Please advise.

A: This is a fardh, and when the fardh has been invalidated it must be redone. And it can only be redone if people are notified.

Q: And as far as those people who might have been there and have passed on, should the person carry out any act or fidyah on behalf of them? Jazaakumullawhu khairan

A: You are not responsible for those who have passed on.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
