Discharging zakaat to an organisation that builds homes for widows
Q: This is how I discharge my zakaat every year:
A certain lady is in charge of an organization that builds homes for widows, so what I do, for example, 200 000 dollars is my zakaat, so I give it to her and tell her build homes for 4 widows, sometimes I give the money directly to the bank in charge of the project, is this ok?
A: Yes. As long as they are responsible and reliable people who are discharging this obligation on behalf of the wealthy. Building homes means that the homes are given to the poor entirely where it becomes his/her own property. Then the zakaat will be valid.
كتاب الزكاة ... ( هي ) لغة الطهارة والنماء وشرعا ( تمليك ) خرج الإباحة فلو أطعم يتيما ناويا الزكاة لا يجزيه إلا إذا دفع إليه المطعوم كما لو كساه بشرط أن يعقل القبض إلا إذا حكم عليه بنفقتهم ( جزء مال ) خرج المنفعة فلو أسكن فقيرا داره سنة ناويا لا يجزيه (الدر المختار 2/ 256)
