Reward for performing Umrah
Q: What reward/benefit does one obtain when performing Sunnat Umrah? Will all your sins be forgiven? Are the reward /benefit the same as when one performs the Haj?
A: It is reported in the hadith that the reward one will receive through performing umrah is greater than the entire world and what it contains. In another hadith Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said that the umrah carried out after another umrah expiates the minor sins committed in between. In another hadith Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said that those performing haj or umrah are the delegation of Allah Ta'ala. If they call unto him in duaa, He will answer their duaa, and if they seek forgiveness for their sins, He will forgive them.
The reward for Haj is greater than the reward for Umrah. However it is reported in the hadith that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said that the umrah carried out in the month of Ramadhaan is equal to the reward of haj. And in another hadith he said that the umrah carried out in the month of Ramadhaan is equal to the reward of haj performed with me (i.e. with Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).

وعنه (أي أبي هريرة) رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم قال العمرة إلى العمرة كفارة لما بينهما (الترغيب والترهيب رقم 1680)
وعن المغيرة بن شعبة قال : قال عثمان بن أبي العاص وكان شابا : وفدنا على رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم فوجدني أفضلهم أخذا للقرآن وقد فضلتهم بسورة البقرة فقال النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم : قد أمرتك على أصحابك وأنت أصغرهم . فإذا أممت قوما فأمهم بأضعفهم فإن وراءك الكبير والضعيف وذا الحاجة وإذا كنت مصدقا فلا تأخذ الشافع وهي الماخض ولا الربى ولا فحل الغنم وجزرة الرجل هو أحق ص . 219 بها منك ولا تمس القرآن إلا وأنت طاهر . واعلم أن العمرة هي الحج الأصغر . وإن عمرة هي خير من الدنيا وما فيها . وحجة خير من عمرة
قلت : في الصحيح منه قصة الإمامة رواه الطبراني في الكبير (مجمع الزوائد رقم 4392)
وعن جابر قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم : الحجاج والعمار وفد الله دعاهم فأجابوه وسألوه فأعطاهم رواه البزار ورجاله ثقات (جمع الفوائد رقم 5288)
وعن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه أنه سمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يقول : عمرة في رمضان كحجة معي (مجمع الزوائد رقم 5674)
