Communicating with the boy before nikaah
Q: I met a boy and spoke to him for the purpose of marriage. It didn't take me long after that to decide that I would like to marry him. My parents did not have a problem and were happy as well. I have now been speaking to this boy for over a year because he says he still needs time to decide. According to him, he does like me but he is just very confused about getting married. Please advise me on what to do as I know now that it is haraam for me to continue speaking to him. I did try stopping but he always says that he will decide soon and he also gets upset and has a problem eating and sleeping when I do stop. Please advise on what he can do as well to help him decide.
A: Before nikaah it is impermissible for the girl and boy to be in contact with each other. Being in contact whether telephonically or in any other form draws the wrath and displeasure of Allah Ta'ala. The nikaah that commences on such a footing (i.e. accompanied by the wrath of Allah Ta'ala) will be bereft of all barkat. If the boy and girl do not seek Allah Ta'ala's forgiveness and make sincere tawbah then what hope of happiness and success can be expected in such a nikaah? You should tell your parents to inform the boy that you will no longer be in contact with him and if he is interested in nikaah he should contact them.

عن أم سلمة قالت كنت عند رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وعنده ميمونة فأقبل ابن أم مكتوم وذلك بعد أن أمرنا بالحجاب فقال النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم احتجبا منه. فقلنا يا رسول الله أليس أعمى لا يبصرنا ولا يعرفنا فقال النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم أفعمياوان أنتما ألستما تبصرانه (رواه أبو داود 2/568)
معقل بن يسار يقول : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم : لأن يطعن في رأس أحدكم بمخيط من حديد خير له من أن يمس امرأة لا تحل له (طبراني كبير 20/211 #17242)
عن أبي أمامة : عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم قال : إياكم والخلوة بالنساء والذي نفسي بيده ما خلا رجل وامرأة إلا خل الشيطان بينهما وليزحم رجل خنزيرا متلطخا بطين أو حمأة خير له من أن يزحم منكبه منكب امرأة لا تحل له (طبراني كبير 8/205 #7846)
عن عقبة بن عامر : أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم قال إياكم والدخول على النساء فقال رجل من الأنصار يا رسول الله ! أفرأيت الحمو ؟ قال الحمو الموت (ترمذي 1/220)
