Sacrificing something for the sake of Allah Ta'ala
Q: The Hadith says that when you leave something for the sake of Allah then Allah will reward you with something better.
Question 1: Does this mean that if one leaves something e.g. sacrifices his home comfort etc. to go to the musjid or in the path of Allah etc., then as a reward, one will get better then what one has left behind?
Question 2: Does it refer to the case where one leaves something haraam e.g. a sinful deed or haraam food then in reward, one will get better than what one has sacrificed?
Question 3: What is the correct explanation of this Hadith?
A: The meaning of the Hadith is that one will be recompensed with something better from the side of Allah Ta'ala if one leaves out something, whether permissible or impermissible, for the sake of Allah Ta'ala e.g. one is tempted towards committing a sin but refrains out of the fear of Allah Ta'ala, or one waives his right in order to bring about mutual harmony and peace among two parties, or one leaves out a business transaction for the sake of Allah Ta'ala due to there being a percentage of doubt in it.
It is reported from Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: "The one who refrains from lying (for the sake of Allah Ta'ala) while he is on baatil (i.e. he is on the wrong), Allah Ta'ala will bless him with a palace in the side of Jannah. The one who leaves out disputing and arguing for the sake of Allah while he is on Haqq, Allah Ta'ala will bless him with a palace in the centre of Jannah. The one who improves his character with people for the sake of Allah, Allah Ta'ala will bless him with a palace in the upper portion of Jannah (highest rank of Jannah)."

عن أبي قتادة، وأبي الدهماء، قالا: أتينا على رجل من أهل البادية فقلنا: هل سمعت من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم شيئا؟ قال: نعم، سمعته يقول: إنك لن تدع شيئا لله إلا بدلك الله به ما هو خير لك منه (مسند أحمد، الرقم: 23074)
عن أبي قتادة، وأبي الدهماء، قالا: كانا يكثران السفر نحو هذا البيت، قالا: أتينا على رجل من أهل البادية، فقال البدوي: أخذ بيدي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فجعل يعلمني مما علمه الله وقال: إنك لن تدع شيئا اتقاء الله إلا أعطاك الله خيرا منه (مسند أحمد، الرقم: 20739)
عن أنس بن مالك قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: من ترك الكذب وهو باطل بني له في ربض الجنة، ومن ترك المراء وهو محق بني له في وسطها، ومن حسن خلقه بني له في أعلاها (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 1993)
عن عطية السعدي وكان من أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لا يبلغ العبد أن يكون من المتقين حتى يدع ما لا بأس به حذرا لما به البأس (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 2451)
