Can the poor also earn rewards like the rich despite not having wealth to spend in charity?
Q: How can a poor person compete with a wealthy person in terms of good deeds as the wealthy are able to do so much more good deeds with their wealth? In fact, wealthy people can even receive rewards after they pass away due to Sadaqah Jariyah, but as for the poor, their rewards are very little.
A: The poor person can also acquire abundant rewards by making du`aa for the underprivileged, or reciting Qur'aan, or performing some good deed and conveying the reward to the Muslims in general. The poor person should be happy with Allah Ta'ala's decree in the state that He has kept him in. The Hadeeth says that the poor will enter Jannah many years before the wealthy. The important thing is to be pleased with the decision of Allah Ta`ala.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

حدثنا بشر بن هلال الصواف البصري حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان عن أبي طارق عن الحسن عن ابي هريرة قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم من يأخذ عني هؤلاء الكلمات فيعمل بهن أو يعلم من يعمل بهن ؟ فقال أبو هريرة فقلت أنا يا رسول الله فأخذ بيدي فعد خمسا وقال اتق المحارم تكن أعبد الناس وارض بما قسم الله لك تكن أغنى الناس وأحسن إلى جارك تكن مؤمنا وأحب للناس ما تحب لنفسك تكن مسلما ولا تكثر الضحك فإن كثرة الضحك تميت القلب.(سنن الترمذي رقم 2305)
