The maximum period of breastfeeding
Q: My daughter is 30 months old. At the time of sleeping, she does not sleep unless she is breastfed. I tried to make her give up, but all in vain. Kindly advise me if it's still haraam for me to breastfeed her, as it is only at the time of sleeping that she does this.
A: Breastfeeding is permissible till the child reaches two years of age (i.e. two lunar years). Breastfeeding after two lunar years is not permissible. You should make istighfaar for surpassing the limit and immediately stop breastfeeding your daughter.

وَالْوَالِدَاتُ يُرْضِعْنَ أَوْلَادَهُنَّ حَوْلَيْنِ كَامِلَيْنِ (البقرة: 233)
باب الرضاع (هو مص من ثدي آدمية في وقت مخصوص هو حولان ونصف عنده وحولان) فقط (عندهما وهو الأصح) فتح وبه يفتى كما في تصحيح القدوري عن العون (رد المحتار 209/3)
ووقت الرضاع في قول أبي حنيفة رحمه الله تعالى مقدر بثلاثين شهرا وقالا مقدر بحولين هكذا في فتاوى قاضي خان (الفتاوى الهندية 342/1)
وأما كون مدته ما ذكر فهو قول الإمام وقالا: حولين لقوله تعالى: {والوالدات يرضعن أولادهن حولين كاملين} ... وعن هذا قال في (الفتح): قولهما هو مختار الطحاوي معزيًا إلى (العيون) على (الدراية) وبقولهما نأخذ في الفتوى وهذا أولى انتهى (النهر الفائق 299/2)
