Airtime Advance
Q: Vodacom has a service called airtime advance whereby a person can purchase R5 or R10 airtime on credit. After you purchase the airtime, then at a later time within a stipulated period, they will recoup the R5 or R10 plus an additional R1 which they term a service fee. Will this constitute riba?
A: Since they are charging you a set price for the airtime, the entire price will be in lieu of the airtime. The way they go about structuring the deal and the manner in which they arrive at their selling price will not affect you in any way.

أما الأئمة الأربعة وجمهور الفقهاء والمحدثون، فقد أجازوا البيع المؤجل بأكثر من سعر النقد، بشرط أن يبت العاقدان بأنه بيع مؤجل بأجل معلوم، وبثمن متفق عيه عند العقد، فأما إذا قال البائع: أبيعك نقدا بكذا ونسيئة بكذا، وافتراقا على ذلك، دون أن يتفقا على تحديد واحد من السعرين، فإن مثل هذا البيع لا يجوز، ولكن إذا عين العاقدان أحد الشقين في مجلس العقد، فالبيع جائز.(بحوث في قضايا فقهية معاصرة صـــ 12)
