Taking a false qasam on the Qur'aan

Q: Someone wants me to tell the truth but if I say the truth my children's life would be in danger, can I give false truth by swearing on Qur'aan?

A: To take a false qasam on the Qur'aan is not permissible. This is a major sin. However, if one is oppressed and is being forced to take an oath, then to save himself from oppression, it is permissible for him to take an oath. However, at the time of taking the oath, he should intend another meaning besides the meaning intended by the person forcing him to take the oath. In this way, he will not be sinful in his oath.
