Divorce for a Muslim girl who married a non-Muslim

Q: As Muslims, we all know that it is impermissible for a Muslim girl to marry a non-Muslim. If a Muslim girl married a non-Muslim, we know that the nikaah will be null and void. If her marriage is registered, is there any need for divorce for her or not? Because the marriage is void from a begining. Kindly clarify this matter.

A: When the nikaah did not take place, then there is no question of divorce. The relationship was a relationship of zina. As long as they remain together, they remain perpetually in sin.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
