Performing salaah after using alcohol based hand sanitizer

Q: In my country, it is compulsory to use hand sanitizer before entering any shop for shopping, etc. All of the hand sanitizers have alcohol in it. What is the ruling regarding praying salaah, touching Quraan or eating after using it?

A: The alcohol used in these types of sanitizers are not made from dates or grapes and are therefore not najis (impure). Though it is better for one to wash one's hands before performing salaah, if one had performed salaah without washing his hands, the salaah will be valid.
