Marrying a Shia

Q: Can a Sunni (Hanafi) male make nikaah with a Shia Jafaria (Ayat Ullah Khumeni) female?

A: According to our Ulama, Shias are not Muslims. They believe that the Qur’aan Shareef has been distorted. Similarly, they also believe that the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) had turned apostate, Allah forbid. The one who believes in this is a kaafir. Hence, the nikaah with a kaafir is not valid and it is not a nikaah. If one gets married to a Shia, one will perpetually be living in zina.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
