Sin of talking to a non-mahram

Q:
1. Is it a major sin or a minor sin to talk unnecessarily with a non-mahram by text or phone?
2. If a person believes that unnecessary talking with a non-mahram is not a sin, will he leave the fold of Islam?
A:
1. Definitely it is wrong and this could amount to zina of the tongue and ears.
2. Such a person is a jaahil. He does not know deen. It is compulsory for him to understand deen, and sincerely beg Allah Ta`ala's forgiveness.
