Mentioning women's names in front of non-mahrams

Q: It is necessary for women to make pardah of their names? Some argue that we know the names of our Sahaabiyyah رضى الله عنها. Can Mufti Saheb please explain.

A: Though mentioning women's names before non-mahram men is not a sin, however where there is no need, then it is better not to mention their names before non-mahram men as this is more in keeping to modesty and saving people from fitnah (wrong feelings and thoughts etc).

As far as the Sahabiyyaat (radhiyallahu anhun) are concerned, then since they have narrated Ahaadith from Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) or they appear in the chains of the narrations, it was necessary to mention their names in order to verify the authenticity of the Ahaadith and narrations.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
