Abattoir shooting a bull in the head after slaughtering it

Q: I heard from someone that they had their bulls slaughtered at an abattoir on Eid ul Adha.

This is how it happened: they put the bull normally in a cage then turn it to its side, they slaughter it properly but they said that after they slaughter it, the abattoir shoots it in the head.

The reason for this is because after slaughtering it then the brain is still active so that is what the muscle of the bull contracts (the animal is dead once its slaughtered).

Then immediately it gets sliced same time. I wanted to know if this is ok?

A: If the animal is slaughtered correctly and thereafter the animal is shot in the head, the slaughtering will be valid. However, shooting the animal while there are signs of life in it is not permissible. Causing unnecessary pain and suffering to the animal in this way is not permissible.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
