Claiming Allah's help is with a sports team

Q: What is the case of a person or country who rejoices by the victory of a team in a sport that transgresses the limits of Shariah, and claims that Allah has supported this team, that Allah is on their side, that Allah made them triumph over the kafirun? There is mixing of the sexes, music is always played, and the awrah is not covered at all at these sporting gatherings.

I am completely overwhelmed by the behavior of my Muslim brothers.

A: These sporting events have nothing to do with Islam. In fact, on account of the abundant wrongs and fitnah associated with them, Islam totally condemns participation in these events or having any type of association with them. There are many verses in the Quraan Majeed as well as many Ahaadith that discourage a believer from getting involved in futile activities. Hence, it does not behove a believer to stoop so low as to while away his time in these futile and vain activities which will bring no benefit to his deen or dunya, but will rather cause harm to his deen.

A Mu’min has been created for higher objectives and greater goals. His endeavour in life should constantly be aimed towards earning the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala and the rewards of the Hereafter. He should not while away his time in amusement and vain activity, emulating the ways of the kuffaar.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
