Reading any Islamic book

Q: I have a goal to finish reading all of our Islamic books in the house this Ramadhaan. I'm not sure what the content of my Islamic books are. It is books that I have never opened. They may or may not have Quraanic verses, hadith, etc.

Is it permissible to read Islamic literature during the days of haidh?

A: It is wrong to read anything and everything. The hadeeth says that knowledge is your deen. So be very careful as to where you obtain your deen from. Many books have been authored by so-called Muslims, orientalists and non-Muslims and they can inject doubts in your mind. And sometimes it is difficult for you to cleanse yourself from those baseless doubts. So what is the good in reading those books? It is best that you refer to some pious righteous aalim who is experienced in this regard. The fazaail kitaabs, Bahishti Zewar and Seeratul Mustafa are recommended kitaabs.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
