Claiming more for repairs from an insurance company

Q: If someone knocks your car and the it will cost you R15 000 to repair but you claim R30 000 from that person's insurance company but because of time you repaired it on your own and then the insurance company ends up paying you R25 000. Can you take the money?

A: If one knows that the cost for fixing the damages is R15 000, then he should not claim R30 000. However, if he claimed more than this amount for the damages, and the insurance company felt that the cost to repair the damages is R25 000, and hence they paid him R25 000, then it will be permissible for him to take the money.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
