Purchasing expensive clothes

Q: Is it israaf (wasting money) to buy expensive clothes if one can afford it?

A: It is permissible for a person to wear good and expensive clothes within the limits of Shariah on condition that he does not do it with the intention of showing off and spending in this avenue does not result in him being unable to fulfil the rights and responsibilities that he owes towards his family and those whom he has been commanded to take care of (e.g. aged parents who are poor and dependant upon him, etc).

Note: Though it is permissible for a person to wear such clothing, however adopting the sunnah attire is better, more rewarding and is in keeping to moderation.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
