Bodybuilder posting pictures of himself on social media
Q: I do bodybuilding. Is it permissible for me to post my physique on social media as I heard from someone that it is being arrogant and so it is haraam.
So is it permissible for me to post my physique pics and videos on insta which show my muscle (if I am covering my awrah; navel to knee)?
A: This is not permissible. Photography and producing pictures of all animate objects has been declared haraam and forbidden in shariah. Severe warnings have been sounded in the mubaarak Ahaadith for those who get involved in these grave sins.
Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “The people to be inflicted with the worst punishment on the day of Qiyaamah will be the picture makers."
In another Hadith, Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) cursed the one who receives interest, the one who gives interest, the tattooist, the tattooed and the picture maker.
In yet another Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said that the angels of mercy do not enter a home in which there is a picture of an animate object.
By taking a picture of yourself and thereafter posting it on social media, you will be guilty of committing this vile sin as well as causing others to be sinful through viewing the picture. Further, women will also see your body and this will be an added sin of allowing your body to be seen and admired by non mahram women.
Apart from this, this type of attitude is one that generally stems from boastfulness and pride where a person wants to show off with his unique body muscles and physique, whereas a servant of Allah Ta'ala is supposed to be humble and thankful to Allah Ta'ala for the favour Allah Ta'ala has granted him - he is not supposed to show off and be proud, boasting before others and regarding this to be his personal achievement.
Hence, when one examines this sin of taking pictures of oneself and posting on social media, one realizes that it is a conglomeration of many sins compounded together.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
عن سالم عن أبيه قال وعد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم جبريل فراث عليه حتى اشتد على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فخرج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فلقيه فشكا إليه ما وجد فقال له إنا لا ندخل بيتا فيه صورة ولا كلب (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 5960)
عن مسلم قال كنا مع مسروق في دار يسار بن نمير فرأى في صفته تماثيل فقال سمعت عبد الله قال سمعت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول إن أشد الناس عذابا عند الله يوم القيامة المصورون (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 5950)
عن علقمة عن عبد الله قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم لا يدخل الجنة من كان في قلبه مثقال حبة من خردل من كبر ولا يدخل النار من كان في قلبه مثقال حبة من إيمان (جامع الترمذي، الرقم: 1998)
وظاهر كلام النووي في شرح مسلم الإجماع على تحريم تصوير الحيوان وقال وسواء صنعه لما يمتهن أو لغيره فصنعته حرام بكل حال لأن فيه مضاهاة لخلق الله تعالى وسواء كان في ثوب أو بساط أو درهم وإناء وحائط وغيرها اهـ فينبغي أن يكون حراما لا مكروها إن ثبت الإجماع أو قطعية الدليل بتواتره (رد المحتار 1/647)
وكذا النهي إنما جاء عن تصوير ذي الروح لما روي عن علي رضي الله عنه أنه قال من صور تمثال ذي الروح كلف يوم القيامة أن ينفخ فيه الروح وليس بنافخ فأما لا نهي عن تصوير ما لا روح له لما روي عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنه أنه نهى مصورا عن التصوير فقال كيف أصنع وهو كسبي فقال إن لم يكن بد فعليك بتمثال الأشجار (بدائع الصنائع 1/116)
