Assisting one's people in carrying out oppression
Q: I do not understand a hadeeth which appears in Abu Dawood. It reads as follows:
من نصر قومه على غير الحق فهو كالبعير الذي ردي فهو ينزع بذنبه
1. Please explain the meaning of the hadeeth.
2. What is the meaning of ''helping his people unjustly''. Could you give an example.
A: The Hadith means that just as pulling out a camel by it's tail which has fallen in a well will not prove fruitful in saving the camel, and this is an effort in vain, similarly his assisting his people upon oppression and wrong merely because they are his people will not prove fruitful in the sight of Allah Ta'ala. Instead this action will be a means of his destruction and failure.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن مسعود عن أبيه قال من نصر قومه على غير الحق فهو كالبعير الذى ردى فهو ينزع بذنبه (سنن أبي داود #5119)
وفي بذل المجهود : (من نصر قومه ) وحماه ( على غير الحق فهو كالبعير الذى ردى ) أي تردي وسقط في البير ( فهو ينزع ) أي يخرج من البير ( بذنبه ) أي بأخذ ذنبه فهو لا يخرج من البير بإخراجه بأخذ الذنب يعني لا ينفعه هذه الحماية لكونه على غير حق . (بذل المجهود 5/305)
