Performing the sunnats of Fajr
Q: If I reach the musjid at a time when the jamaat of Fajr has already commenced, should I immediately join the jamaat or should I first offer the sunnah of Fajr?
A: If you are sure that you will be able to perform your sunnats and still get the jamaat, then you should perform your sunnats in the sehn of the musjid (i.e. in such a place where you will not be an obstruction for those who wish to join the saff) and thereafter join the jamaat.
However, if you fear that through performing your sunnats, you will miss the jamaat, then in this case, you should not perform the sunnats, instead you should join the jamaat.

عن حارثة بن مضرب أن ابن مسعود وأبا موسى خرجا من عند سعيد بن العاص فأقيمت الصلاة فركع ابن مسعود ركعتين ثم دخل مع القوم في الصلاة وأما أبو موسى فدخل في الصف رواه أبو بكر ابن أبي شيبة في مصنفه (الرقم 6476) وإسناده صحيح (آثار السنن صـ 359)
عن أبي الدرداء أنه كان يدخل المسجد والناس صفوف في صلاة الفجر فيصلي الركعتين في ناحية المسجد ثم يدخل مع القوم في الصلاة رواه الطحاوي في شرح معاني الآثار (الرقم: 2205) وإسناده حسن (آثار السنن صـ 359)
(وكذا يكره تطوع عند إقامة صلاة مكتوبة) أي إقامة إمام مذهبه لحديث إذا أقيمت الصلاة فلا صلاة إلا المكتوبة (إلا سنة فجر إن لم يخف فوت جماعتها) ولو بإدراك تشهدها فإن خاف تركها أصلا (الدر المختار 1/377-378)
