The law regarding women cutting or trimming their hair
Q: The Ulama explain that it is not permissible for women to cut or trim their hair, why is it not permissible?
A: In matters of Deen we are commanded to follow the Fuqaha. The Fuqaha are those experts in Deen who after carrying out an extensive and comprehensive study of the Quraan, the Mubarak Ahaadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and the verdicts of the Sahaabah (with all the related sciences that are required to understand Deen), deduce the masaail of Deen and explain to the Ummah the parameters of Shariah. Hence it would be a futile exercise for the person who is not knowledgeable and completely conversant with all the above-mentioned sciences of Deen, to try to challenge their verdicts. The Fuqaha have explained in the light of Shariah that it is not permissible for a woman to cut or trim her hair.

عن ابن عمر قال: نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن القزع . قال: وما القزع؟ قال: أن يحلق من رأس الصبي مكان ويترك مكان. (ابن ماجة رقم 3637)
عن ابن عمر قال قال رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم (سنن أبي داود 2/559)
قال الشامي : قوله ( وأما حلق رأسه إلخ ) في الروضة للزندويستي أن السنة في شعر الرأس إما الفرق أو الحلق وذكره الطحاوي أن الحلق سنة ونسب ذلك إلى العلماء الثلاثة وفي الذخيرة ولا بأس أن يحلق وسط رأسه ويرسل شعره من غير أن يفتله وإن فتله فذلك مكروه لأنه يصير مشبها ببعض الكفرة والمجوس في ديارنا يرسلون الشعر من غير فتل ولكن لا يحلقون وسط الرأس بل يجزون الناصية تاترخانية قال ط ويكره القزع وهو أن يحلق البعض ويترك البعض قطعا مقدار ثلاثة أصابع كذا في الغرائب وفيها كان بعض السلف يترك سباليه وهما أطراف الشوارب (رد المحتار 6/ 407)
