Husband checking his wife's messages and social media accounts

Q: Wouldn't it be permissible for a husband to check his wife's phone and her messages in WhatsApp and social media? I have seen some Ulama say it is not permissible because it is her private interactions. But I was confused about what they said. How else can you ensure that your wife is not falling into something bad? Isn't it like checking your child's phone?
A: We advise that this matter be discussed with his wife that if there is going to be total transparency on both sides then this will help to eliminate doubts. So she should cooperate in this regard.
