Is life a greater blessing than imaan?
Q: Will it be correct to say that life is a greater blessing than imaan?
A: It is totally wrong. Life is given to kuffaar, animals, insects, etc. as well. They do not enjoy the blessings of imaan. After all, what is the good of life without imaan? Allah Ta'ala speaks of such people who have no imaan and says that they are like animals - in fact they are worse than animals. In another place, Allah Ta'ala says that they are the worst of the creation. They are those who are deprived of imaan.
In another aayah, Allah Ta‘ala describes a kaafir as a dead person, and through being blessed with Imaan by Allah Ta‘ala, he receives life. Therefore, we understand that a life with disbelief is like death, and life with imaan is true life.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ (سورة الذاريات: 46)
وَلَقَدْ ذَرَأْنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ لَّا يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ آذَانٌ لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ كَالْأَنْعَامِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْغَافِلُونَ (سورة الأعراف: 179)
أَوَمَن كَانَ مَيْتًا فَأَحْيَيْنٰهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ كَمَن مَّثَلُهُ فِي الظُّلُمٰتِ لَيْسَ بِخَارِجٍ مِّنْهَا ۚ كَذٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْكٰفِرِينَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (سورة الأنعام :122)
ونزل في أبي جهل وغيره {أومن كان ميتا} بالكفر {فأحييناه} بالهدى {وجعلنا له نورا يمشي به في الناس} يتبصر به الحق من غيره وهو الإيمان {كمن مثله} مثل زائدة أي كمن هو {في الظلمات ليس بخارج منها} وهو الكافر لا {كذلك} كما زين للمؤمنين الإيمان {زين للكافرين ما كانوا يعملون} من الكفر والمعاصي (تفسير الجلالين سورة الأنعام :122)
