Working for an insurance company

Q: I'm in UAE and here vehicle insurance for all vehicle is mandatory.

My question is, working in a vehicle insurance companay as a reconcile officer which the person has to check how many vehicles insurance we have paid and how much we have claimed from the third party insurance company. But I'm not engaging directly or indirectly to sell or buy the vehicle or other types of insurance to anyone.

Is that permissible in Islam, i.e. is my earning halaal or haraam?

A: Insurance is impermissible on account of the elements of gambling and interest being found in it. Severe warnings have been sounded in the mubaarak Ahaadith for those who get involved in the grave sin of gambling and interest. Hence, working for an insurance company is not permissible and the wealth earned through this means will not be halaal. You should look for a halaal source of earning. If you are unable to find a halaal source of earning immediately, then continue to make istighfaar and beg Allah Ta'ala's forgiveness until you find a halaal source of earning.

N.B. Since taking out insurance is mandatory in your country, the citizens who take out insurance will be excused as they are compelled to take it out and the sin will be upon those who have enforced this law and compelled them to do so. Nevertheless, it is only permissible for the citizens to claim from the insurance at the time when they make an insurance claim (for damages, hijacking etc,) the amount they have paid to the insurance and nothing more.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
