Drinking nabeez

Q: Is it Sunnah to eat dates soaked overnight in water, in the morning?

A: What you are referring to is called nabeez. The dates used to be soaked in water so that the sweetness of the dates would enter the water and the following day, the dates used to also be pressed until further sweetness would enter the water and then the water used to be drunk. The hadith explains that this type of drink is permissible on condition that it does not lead to any type of intoxication.

This was drunk by Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum), however it was not regarded as an ibaadah in deen. If someone drinks it with the intention of emulating Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), he will be rewarded for his love and intention of emulating the practice of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam).

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
