Q: Alhumdulliah by the grace of Allah Ta'ala I have been blessed with a baby girl. We were a bit confused on keeping her name. The family has decided to keep the name as "Aayat". I just would like to ask can we keep the name as Aayat according to Islam? Appreciate if you can enlighten me a bit on this as I don't want to give a name for my baby which is inappropriate. Also appreciate if you can respond at earliest as I need to make all the legal formalities for which I need to have the baby's name.
A: Aayat means a sign. We suggest that you keep names of the women of Sahaaba and the pious of the past e.g. Faatima, Aysha, Ruqayya, etc.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
