Q: I would like to ask about keeping a name of a baby boy. The name would be Muhammad Wa Sallam, after our beloved Prophet's mubarak name. It is like one keeps a name Musa, or Esa or Ebrahim etc. Is it permissible to keep this name "Muhammad Wa sallam" or not? 

Q: I am planning to name my daughter Rumaisa Saad, InSha-Allah. 

I am naming her after the companion of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), Umm Sulaim. I am unable to find any resources that give me the authentic meaning of the name Rumaisa. What is your opinion of the name?

Q: My husband and I are expecting a daughter soon. We really like the name Haniyyah. Is this a good name to keep?

Q: I have heard that you are not allowed to take your husbands surname after getting married according to these verses: 

"Call them by their fathers names; that is more just in the sight of Allah. (Quraan 33:5)" 

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: "Whoever claims to belong to someone other than his father has committed an act of disbelief. (Sahih Bukhari 3508, Muslim 61)". 

a. Are these quotes correct? 

b. Is the statement you're not allowed to take your husbands surname after marriage correct? 

c. I know of people who have registered themselves for marriage at Islamic centres and they have asked women if they want to take their husbands surname. 

Q: In my work as a candidate attorney, I am forced to refer to the magistrate as, "your worship". Is this permissible as it is not possible for any Muslim attorney to practice without having to at some point appear before a magistrate in court.

Q: I want to know which one is the correct name among these 

1. رُوميصا 

2. رُوميسا 

3. رُوميشا

Q: Can I name my child after Hazrat Zul-Kifl (alaihis salaam), but only Kifl? Muhammad Kifl. Is it okay to remove the "Zul" before Kifl Islamically? 

Also, is the name okay to have? I mean, is there any bad connotation associated with it, considering how that Shaiytaan specifically targeted him, messing with him to break his spirit?

Q: I wanted some information regarding naming my son Uthmaan after the Sahabah Uthmaan bin Affan (radhiyallahu anhu). We have heard a lot of good about this Sahaabi but wanted Mufti Saheb to share some information regarding him which is authentic as well as if you can send information regarding the meaning of Uthmaan. 

I also wanted to know, does the meaning affect the child or if the child is named after someone will that affect the child? 

Q: I gave my child's name Shariq. Is there any problem with this name?
