Mentioning one's wife before strange men

Q: Why do persons refer to their wives by saying 'my family'? Is it against the Sunnah to say 'my wife' or even take her name when speaking to someone about her?

A: It is not in keeping to shame and modesty that one mentions his wife or takes her name before strange men.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: There are numerous instances wherein Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) took the names of his wives. An example at the top of my head is when Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) was asked, 'Who is the most beloved of people to you', he replied, 'Ayesha'... Like this there are numerous other examples. Your answer reads 'It is not in keeping to shame and modesty...' If this was immodest why would the Nabi of Allah take the names of his blessed wives? I know that they are the mothers of the believers but Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) still explicitly mentioned their names on numerous occasions.

A: The Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat are the respected mothers of the ummah. Allah Ta'ala praises them in the Qur'an and shows us their lofty and high position. Every ummati holds them in the highest esteem and possess the greatest respect for them even greater than their own biological mothers. When this is their position in the hearts of every believer, then Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) praising them and mentioning them will not be a means of fithna for anyone. However no other woman can be compared to them in any way. To compare other women to them is totally incorrect.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
