Q: When the Imam is sitting for Jummah khutbah and the muazzin is giving azan in front of him is it sunnah, mustahab or wajib for the Imam to reply verbally to the azan?
A: It is permissible.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
