Using zakaat money to grow maize to feed orphan children

Q: Will zakaat be fulfilled when I give the zakat money for orphaned madrasah children to utilize to grow maize and other crops to feed them?

A: It is not valid. The precondition for the validity of zakaat is that the recipient must be made the owner of the wealth.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
